Softball Takes Two from Lesley

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon with Lesley University at Maple Street Field.  The Rams took the opener 10-2 in five innings and blanked the Lynx 8-0 in six innings in game two.

With the wins, the Rams even their season record at 11-11, while the Lynx are now 10-8.

The Rams jumped on the board in the bottom of the first in game one.  Senior Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tripled and then scored on a wild pitch.

The Lynx came back with two in the top of the second to grab the lead.  Junior Abby Henderson (Rochester, NY) delivered an RBI single with runners on the corners and senior Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) plated a run with a bases loaded groundout.

The Rams took the lead back for good in the bottom of the frame.  Sophomore Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) delivered a two out RBI single and junior Kayla Finacchiaro (Natick, Mass.) followed with a two run single up the middle.

Senior Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) blasted a grand slam to center field in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Rams lead to 8-2 and a two run single by freshman Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) in the bottom of the fifth gave the Rams the run rule victory.

Senior Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) earned the victory in her first start of the season going three innings and allowing two unearned runs on five hits. Junior Kelsi Gunarathne (Providence, RI) tossed two innings of relief and allowed just two hits.

Freshman Jordan Day (Seminole, Fla.) took the loss going four innings and allowing eight runs, all earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.

Marchant once again got the Rams on the board first in game two with an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning.  The Rams extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Senior Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) blooped a single to right plating the first run and Dziok drew a bases loaded walk for the second.

The Rams added five more in the bottom of the sixth to reach the final margin.  Marchant and Moody drew bases loaded walks with no outs and sophomore Kayley Reese (Lake Mary, Fla.) followed with a bases loaded two RBI single.  Dziok pushed across the final run with a single to reach the eight run differential.

Gunarathne earned the victory for the Rams allowing one hit in three innings of work, while freshman Grace Caughey (Mendon, Mass.) tossed three innings of scoreless relief.

Day took the loss for the Lynx going five innings and allowing eight earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and seven walks.
