Softball Falls 7-6 to Keene State and 10-2 to Franklin and Marshall

Minneola, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team dropped a pair of game this afternoon at the PFX Spring Games. The Rams were edged 7-6 in their opener by Keene State and defeated 10-2 in five innings by Franklin and Marshall in the nightcap.

In the opener, Keene State opened up a 5-0 lead with a single run in the top of the third and four in the top of the fourth.

The Rams answered with a single run in the bottom of the fourth.  Sophomore Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) reached on a bunt single and moved to second on a ground out.  Junior Kayla Finacchiaro (Natick, Mass.) reached on an error allowing Moody to score.

The Rams added two more in the bottom of the fifth to cut the score to 5-3.  Junior Lauren Salisbury (Cranston, RI) reached on an infield single and moved to second on a single by freshman Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.).  Senior Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) followed with a single to left loading the bases with one out.  After an out, senior Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) walked forcing in a run.  Finacchiaro once again reached on an error forcing in Desrochers for the second run of the frame.

Keene added two more in the top of the final inning extending the lead to 7-3.  The Rams got three in the bottom of the frame to reach the final margin.  Singles by Desrochers, Moody and Downing loaded the bases with one out for Finacchiaro who grounded out to first scoring Desrochers.  Senior Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) followed with a two run single to center, but the Owls were able to record the final out and secure the victory.

Junior Kelsi Gunarathne (Providence, RI) took the loss in the opener going seven innings and allowing seven runs, four earned, on seven hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, Franklin and Marshall took control with 10 runs over the first three innings including seven in the bottom of the first while keeping the Rams off the board.

The Rams got on the board in the top of the seventh on a two RBI triple by Marchant, but Franklin & Marshall was able to close out the inning and secure the victory.

Finacchiaro took the loss in game two going two thirds of an inning and allowing seven earned runs on seven hits with a strikeout.

The Rams are now 0-4 on the young season and are back in action tomorrow at the PFX Spring Games when they face North Park at 9 a.m. and Northwestern (Minn.) at 11:30 a.m.
