Softball Top Seed in 2017 MASCAC Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season champion Framingham State University softball team has earned the top in this week's MASCAC Softball Tournament.     

The Rams won a school record 26 games overall and went 12-2 in the league en route to their first MASCAC regular season title.  The Rams have earned the right to host a second round game and the semifinal and final rounds of the MASCAC Tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Maple Street Field.

The Rams were led in the circle this season by sophomore Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) who went 13-5 with 16 complete games.  Gunarathne allowed just 29 earned runs in 125.2 innings for work for a 1.62 ERA.  Junior Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) went 11-5 with a 2.39 ERA.

The Rams were led offensively by freshman Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) who hit .402 during her rookie season with two doubles, two triples and 12 RBI.

Fourth seed Worcester State hosts fifth seed Bridgewater State in an opening round game on Wednesday, May 3rd with the winner advancing to the double elimination portion of the tournament to face the Rams on Friday at 4 p.m. at Maple Street Field.

Rounding out the tournament field is third seed Salem State who hosts sixth seed Fitchburg State in the other opening round game. The winner advances to face second seed Westfield State in Westfield on Friday.

The double elimination portion of the tournament will conclude on Saturday and Sunday with the semifinals and finals at Maple Street Field. The winner of the 2017 MASCAC Softball Tournament received the conference's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
