Softball Cruises to 9-2 Game Two Victory after Falling 3-2 in Opener at Johnson & Wales

Providence, RI – After falling in the opener on a walk off homerun, the Framingham State University softball team rallied in game two for a 9-2 victory in a split of a non-conference doubleheader with Johnson & Wales University at SMG Athletic Complex.

With the split, the Rams are now 10-6 on the year, while the Wildcats are now 10-5.

In the opener, the Rams trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning, but tied the game on an RBI single by Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) and an RBI fielder's choice by junior Bridget McGrail (Worcester, Mass.).

Johnson and Wales took the lead back for good in the bottom of the inning on a walk off, solo home run to left by Kristin Frost.

The Rams, who were held to just five hits in the game, received two hits from freshman Kyla Johnson (North Attleboro, Mass.) and a double from junior Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.).

Emily Gorecki went 2-for-2 with a homer for the hosts, while Alex Fantasia went 3-for-3.

Sophomore Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) took the loss going six and two thirds while allowing three earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, the Rams broke open a 1-1 game with five runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Johnson stole home for the Rams first run of the frame and sophomore Lauren Salisbury followed plate a run on a single.  Junior Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) plated a run on an infield single and Pietersen delivered an RBI sac fly to left.  Senior Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) accounted for the final run of the innings with a single down the right field line.

Sophomore Kayla Finacchiaro (Natick, Mass.) who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, accounted for the Rams final three run with a homer in the seventh inning.

Pietersen earned the victory in the circle going seven innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits.

The Rams are scheduled to be back in action on Sunday, April 2nd, when they face Fitchburg State in a pair of games beginning at 1 p.m.
