Softball Downs UMass Dartmouth 8-1

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University softball team defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 8-1 in non-conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.     

With the win, the Rams improve to 7-5 on the year, while the Corsairs are now 9-6.

Junior Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI for the Rams.  Classmate Dayna Marchant (East Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded a pair of hits including a triple and also recorded an RBI.

The Corsairs were led by two hits from freshman Brittany Polk (Bridgewater, Mass.) and a solo homerun from Maxine Vincent (Hanson, Mass.) in the top of the sixth that accounted for their only run in the game.

Sophomore Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) recorded her sixth win of the season in the circle. Gunarathne went seven innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Junior Hannah Smith (Attleboro, Mass.) took the loss for the Corsairs going three innings and allowing three runs, all unearned, on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Rams are back at home on Tuesday when they entertain New England College for a pair of games beginning at 3 p.m., while the Corsairs travel to Wheaton on Tuesday for a pair on non-conference games beginning at 3 p.m.
