Softball Takes Two from Norwich and Plattsburg State

Leesburg, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team picked up a pair of victories this morning defeating Norwich University 7-1 before defeating Plattsburgh State 4-0.  With the wins, the Rams are now 5-4 on the year.

The Rams took the early lead against Norwich when junior Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) walked with the bases loaded in the top of the first.

The Rams added six in the top of the third extending the lead to 7-0.  Sophomore Lauren Salisbury (Cranston, RI) plated a run with a single and Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) walked with the bases loaded.  Senior Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) crossed the plate with the innings third run as she scored on a wild pitch.  Freshman Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored two with a single and Megan Downing (Hanson, Mass.) plated the final run of the frame on a ground out.

Norwich tallied a single run in the sixth to reach the final score.

Pietersen earned the win in the circle going five innings and allowing no runs on four hits with three strikeouts.  Kayla Finacchiaro (Natick, Mass.) tossed two innings of relief and allowed one run on a hit with a walk and a strikeout.

In the day's second game sophomore Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) earned her fourth victory of the season tossing her second shutout.  Gunarathne went seven innings and allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.

Senior Rachel Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Moody recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run, while senior Kylie Boyle (Billerica, Mass.) also picked up a pair of hits and scored a run.

The Rams close out their southern trip tomorrow when they face Trinity at 8 a.m. and Bowdoin at 10:30 a.m.
