Softball Drops a Pair to Emory & Henry and Rutgers-Newark

Clermont, Fla. – The Framingham State University softball team dropped a pair of games this morning falling to Emory & Henry 10-2 in six innings and 5-4 to Rutgers-Newark.  The Rams are now 3-4 on the young season.

In the opener, the Rams surrendered four runs in the first and three in the third against Emory & Henry as they were defeated in the run shortened game.

The Rams were paced at the plate by freshman Mycala Moody (North Attleboro, Mass.) who recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run, while junior Anna Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Jessica Pietersen (Norton, Mass.) took the loss going 3.2 innings and allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits with four strikeouts.

In their second game, the Rams fell behind 2-0 in the top of the fifth, but got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from freshman Kyla Johnson (North Attleboro, Mass.).

The Rams added three more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.  Junior Bridget McGrail (Worcester, Mass.) drove in a pair on a single to left and sophomore Lauren Salisbury (Cranston, RI) plated the third on double to center.

Rutger-Newark pushed three runs across in the top of the seventh and retired the Rams in the bottom of the frame to secure the victory.

Sophomore Kelsi Gunarathne (North Providence, RI) took the loss going seven innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits with six strikeouts.
