Framingham, Mass.  – Senior Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) tossed a no hitter in game two as the Framingham State University softball team swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader this afternoon against the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Farley Field.

Smith was nearly perfect in the Rams 14-0 game two victory not allowing a base runner until the fourth inning when sophomore Brittany Driscoll (Spencer, Mass.) worked a two out walk.  Smith, who finished the game with eight strikeouts, recorded a punch out to end the fourth and fanned two of the final three batters in the fifth to earn her 5th victory of the season in the circle.

Sophomore Emily Kattau (Gardner, Mass.) led the Rams (18-18, 8-6 MASCAC) offensively in game two driving in three runs, while Smith helped her own cause going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Sophomore Kourtney Kacian (Gardner, Mass.) also picked up a pair hits in game two and drove in run, while Allie Morrissey (Barre, Mass.) chipped in with a base hit, an RBI and two runs scored.

Cassidy Nice (Carver, Mass.) was tagged with the loss in the circle for the Buccaneers allowing 14 runs, eight earned, on nine hits.

In the opener, the Rams defeated the Buccaneers 17-0 in five innings with senior Alyssa Begin (Salem, Mass.) earning the victory in the circle going three and 2/3 innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.  Kattau tossed an inning and a third of scoreless relief and also allowed just one hit.

Freshman Marissa Flynn (Marlborough, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored, while Kacian and sophomore Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) both crossed the plate three times.

Sophomore Ashley Michalski (Portsmouth, RI) doubled for the Bucs in the opener, while Nice went 1-for-2 at the plate.

The Rams will be back in action on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the 2014 MASCAC Softball Championship Tournament.  The fifth seed Rams will travel to fourth seed Salem State University at 4:30 p.m.
