Last Second Dramatics Send Eastern Nazarene Past Men’s Soccer in Overtime

FraminghamMass – Bryan Vargas (San Jose, Costa Rica) tipped in a corner with 17 seconds to play in overtime for Eastern Nazarene after the Rams forced overtime with a last second goal of their own as ENC defeated Framingham State 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The visitors got on the board in the opening minutes when Bryan Vargas headed in a chip pass from Michael Frotcher (Tramin, Italy).     

  • The Rams had a good look to tie the game in the 24th minute when ENC goalie Matais Pait (Lima, Peru) crashed hard to attempt to clear a pass that was chipped wide of the open net by Gabe Padilla (Framingham, Mass.). 

  • The Rams tied the score in the 29th minute when Kunphel Sinha (Darjeeling, India) sent in a long strike to the top right corner of the net off a long throw in from Cameron Lau (Swampscott, Mass.).  

  • The Lions answered early in the second when Sheelens Ostine (Quincy, Mass.) carried in from mid field and beat Rams keeper Jake Hartshorn (Chelmsord, Mass.) for the 2-1 lead.   

  • The Rams tied the game in with seven seconds remaining when a long strike was sent in front of the net by Lau and chipped inside the left post by Nic Santos (Concord, Mass.) to force overtime.  

  • The Rams had a great look about five minutes into the extra frame on a give-and-go but Jeffson Malachie's (Tuma, Ghana) attempt when high.  

  • The Lions earned a corner kick with just under thirty seconds to go in the overtime period. Leonardo Castro (Katy, Texas) sent in a low strike near the inside post that was deflected by Vargas into the open net.  

  • Hartshorn made six saves in net for the Rams while Pait made six stops in net for the Lions.  

  • The Rams outshot the Lions by a 20-to-13 margin but the Lions held a 4-to-2 advantage in the overtime.   

UP NEXT: 

  • The Rams return to action on Friday evening when they host MCLA in MASCAC action at 7pm. The Lions will travel to New England College on Saturday for a 7pm tilt
