UMD Outlasts Men’s Soccer in Overtime

Framingham, Mass – Will Cochran scored in the 96th minute to break a 1-1 tie and lead UMass Dartmouth over Framingham State in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday morning in Framingham.  

THE BASICS:

- Records:Framingham State (0-4), UMass Dartmouth (2-1) 

- Location: Maple Street Field - Framingham, Mass.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Corsairs got on the board in the 16th minute when freshman Jacob Murphy gathered a loose ball, dribbled around a defender and ripped a long shot into the corner of the net.  

  • The Rams answered with a tally of their own when Sherak Ayamga chipped a 50/50 ball out to Nicolas Matias who buried one in the goal 

  • The Corsairs had a good look midway through the 2nd. After a Rams foul set up a great one-time look for Nilin Nehra but Jake Hartshorn was able to make the save for the Rams 

  • Hartshorn kept the game tied in the opening minutes of the first overtime when Bryan Rivas Martinez broke free and sent one toward goal.  

  • In the 96th minute Will Cochran buried a pass from Brayan Rivas Martinez to reach the final margin.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Corsairs held a slight advantage in shots in the game 15-to-12 and 2-to-0 in the overtime period. 

  • Sophomore Jake Hartshorn made five stops in the setback for the Rams 

  • Sophomore Jack Waterhouse turned away three shots in the win for UMD. 

  • Both sides were awarded six corner kicks each.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Rams have a quick turn around as they head to Endicott tomorrow for a 5pm start. The Corsairs will host USJ in non-league action on Wednesday at 7pm.
