Men’s Soccer Holds Off Fitchburg in Regular Season Finale

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's soccer team defeated Fitchburg State by a score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Alumni Field.

With the win the Rams improve 8-9-1 and 4-3 in conference play finishing the regular season in a three-way tie for second place in the MASCAC. The Falcons see their season come to a close at 3-10-2 and 0-6-1 in league play.

The Rams tallied a pair of first half goals. In the 26th minute freshman Pedro Santos (Medford, Mass) threaded a through pass to a streaking junior Isaac De Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for his team-leading 14th goal of the season.

Framingham doubled the score just seconds later, when junior Ken Stahovish (Springfield, Mass.) corralled a loose ball in the box and delivered a goal past the Falcons net minder.

After intermission the Falcons cut the deficit in half as sophomore Christian Lucchesi (Tewksbury, Mass.) tucked a loose ball inside the left post.

The Rams pushed the lead back to 3-1 in the 81st minute with a goal from Pedro Santos (Medford, Mass.), assisted by Eugene Osei (Essex Harlow, England).

The Falcons answered right back when Hassan Koroma (Millbury, Mass.) notched his third goal of the season just two minutes later.

Framingham goaltender Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) has several key saves down the stretch to preserve the win for the Rams.

Arno finished with eight saves for his 4th win of the season, while Branton Abbett (Jasper, Ind) stopped six shots in the loss for the Falcons.

The Rams will play in a MASCAC first round game Tuesday, October 31st to an opponent to be determined.
