Corsairs Hold Off Men’s Soccer for 3-2 Win

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State men's soccer team fell to UMass.- Dartmouth by a score of 3-2 in a non-conference soccer match Thursday afternoon in Framingham. This was the season opener for both squads.

The Corsairs took the advantage when Haden Cordeiro (Dartmouth, Mass.) sent a corner kick into the box that Akere Tambi (Bamenda, Cameroon) relayed to John Correia (Peabody, Mass.) who then sent a one-timer into the back of the net in the 22nd minute. The visitors tallied their second goal of the game when Austin Dias (Smithfield, RI) sent a rebounded save by the diving Rams goalkeeper.

The Rams controlled the pace of play in the early moments but ultimately trailed 11-to-3 in shots heading into the half.

The Rams scored in the opening moments of the second period when Razak Boateng (Worcester, Mass.) sent home a strike from Ken Stahovich (Springfield, Mass.).

The Corsairs countered a few moments later when Matt Vidal (New Bedford, Mass.) moved the visitor's advantage back to two scores with an assist coming from Dias.

The Rams cut the deficit back to a single score in the 58th minute when Bryan Reis (Keene, NH) scored his first goal as a Ram with Mitch Osgood (Salem, Mass.) assisting. The hosts had a few good opportunities to tie the game later in the second half but could not convert.

Senior Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) started in net for the Rams being relived by freshman Corey Davidge (Blackstone, Mass.). Senior Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) patrolled the net in the victory for the Corsairs.

The Corsairs return to action on Sunday, September 4th when they travel to Suffolk University for non-conference action. The Rams will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, September 3rd for a 7p.m. match.
