Strong First Period Propels Fitchburg State Past Men’s Ice Hockey

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's ice hockey team surrendered four goals in the opening stanza as the Rams were defeated 7-1 this afternoon by Fitchburg State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Wallace Civic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Falcons got on the board first just over five minutes into the game and added three more to close the first and lead 4-0 after one period. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the final two minutes of the second when Devante Dixon converted off a feed from Devin Shepherd, but the Falcons added a late goal to lead 5-1 after two. 

  • The Falcons tacked on two more in the opening minutes of the third including a power play tally to reach the final margin. 

  • Owen Swanbon took the loss between the pipes for the Rams making seven saves, while Alex Timmons came on in relief and made 19 stops. 

  • Fitchburg State went 2-for-2 on the power play in the game, while the Rams went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
