Ice Hockey Battles Back for 4-4 OT tie with Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. - The Framingham State University ice hockey team tallied three third period goals to erase a three goals deficit and earn a 4-4 overtime tie with Westfield State University this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Amelia Park. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 4, Westfield State 4 (OT) 

-Records: Framingham State (8-12-2, 8-8-2 MASCAC), Westfield State (10-11-2) 

- Location: Amelia Park Westfield, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • After a scoreless first period, the Owls grabbed a 3-0 lead eight minutes into the second period. 

  • The Rams received a late second period goal from Ashton Collazo off feeds from Patrick Colgan and Nathan Gines to close the gap to 3-1 after two. 

  • The Owls struck first in the third pushing the lead back to three on an unassisted tally from Nicolas Coppola. 

  • It was all the Rams after that as they tallied three goals in the final 3:20 over regulation tying the game 4-4 and forcing overtime. 

  • Brady Rossback struck first when he converted on the power play with 3:20 on the clock. 

  • Jake Barcelou followed with a tally at 18:06 and Walker Smith followed just 10 seconds later with the game tying marker. 

  • Trevor Stenberg earned the tie between the pipes for the Rams making 30 stops. 

  • The Owls held a slim 34-33 edge in shots for the game. The Rams went 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Owls went 0-for-1 with the man advantage. 

  • With the tie, the Rams have guaranteed themselves a spot in this season's MASCAC Ice Hockey Tournament with the seedings and matchups being announced on February 17th.
