Strong Third Period Propels Ice Hockey Past Worcester State 6-4

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University ice hockey team tallied three third period goals as the Rams broke open a 3-3 tie and secured a 6-4 victory over Worcester State this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Loring Arena.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Lancers got on the board first when Anders Grongstad found the back of the net with 5:05 to go in the first period. 

  • The Lancer's lead was short lived as the Rams answered with the game tying goal just eight seconds later when Nathan Gines knocked home a loose puck in front of the net. 

  • The Rams grabbed the lead with just over two minutes to go in the first when Scott Bugarin scored off feeds from Patrick Colgan and Cam Lindsay. 

  • A pair of late second period goals from Matthew Kowal put the Lancers on top 3-2 with 1:38 on the clock, but Ashton Collazo knocked home a rebound for the Rams with 3.6 on the clock sending the game into the second intermission tied at 3-3. 

  • The Rams broke the deadlock just under three minutes into the third when Brady Rossbach tallied a power play goal off assists from Devante Dixon and Jake Barcelou. 

  • Gines pushed the Rams lead to two, 5-3, with his second of the game just under eight minutes into the third. 

  • With the goalie pulled for the extra skater, the Lancers closed the gap to one on a goal from Bridgham Neuhold with 31.9 seconds remaining, but the Rams countered with a goal from Brent Scott with just 2.9 on the clock to reach the final margin. 

  • Trevor Stenberg earned the victory in net for the Rams and made 29 saves, while Jakub Kubik took the loss but made 31 stops.
