Ice Hockey Rallies in Third for 4-3 Victory over Westfield State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University ice hockey team tallied a pair of third period goals as the Rams rallied from behind to defeat Westfield State 4-3 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Loring Arena. 

THE BASICS:

-Records: Framingham State (6-8, 6-5-0 MASCAC), Westfield State (9-5-1, 6-4-1 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Owls grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of power play goals in the final 1:20 of the first period. Christopher Miraldo tallied the first and Emile Pichette tallied the second with Daniel Finegan assisting on both markers. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit in half in the sixth minute of the third period when Samuel Larkin drilled a wrist shot into the back of the net. Patrick Colgan and Matthew Nuzzolilo picked up assists on the tally. 

  • The Owls pushed the lead back to two goals when Pichette found the back of the net for his second of the game. The Rams closed the gap back to one goal in the final minute of the frame. Larkin fired a shot on net that was saved, but Scott Bugarin was there to bury the rebound making the score 3-2 after two. 

  • The Rams tied the game just over three minutes into the third period when Bugarin tallied his second of the game off feeds from Larking and Elijah Slagter. 

  • The Rams took the lead in the 12thminute on a power play goal from Ashton Collazo. Nuzzolilo and Jake Barcelou assisted on what proved to be the game winning tally. 

  • The Owls pulled their goalie late but could not find the back of the net. 

  • Trevor Stenberg earned the victory in net for the Rams and made 38 saves, while Valtteri Valtonen took the loss between the pipes but made 43 stops. 

  • The Rams held a 47-41 edge in shots for the game and converted 2-of-6 with the man advantage. Westfield was 2-of-8 on the power play.
