Ice Hockey Tripped Up in Overtime at Franklin Pierce

Gardner, Mass. The Framingham State's hockey team faced off against Franklin Pierce in non-conference action that saw the Rams fall short in overtime with a final score of 3-2. 

THE BASICS: 

- Score: Franklin Pierce 3, Framingham State 2 (OT) 

- Records: Framingham State (1-6), Franklin Pierce (5-4) 

- Location: Gardner Rink Gardner, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The game started with a defensive struggle, as both teams remained scoreless in the first period. The tension escalated in the second period when Franklin Pierce's Trevor Lawler netted the first goal at 3:20, assisted by Tyson Springer and Austin Pick. This gave Franklin Pierce a 1-0 lead heading into the final period. 

  • The third period saw an offensive surge from both teams. Franklin Pierce's Matt Horan extended their lead with an unassisted goal just 1:19 into the period. However, Framingham State responded with a power-play goal by Brent Scott at 5:13, assisted by Matthew Nuzzolilo.  

  • The Rams continued their comeback, tying the game at 2-2 with a late goal from Brady Rossbach at 18:28. 

  • With the game deadlocked at the end of regulation, the teams headed into overtime. Unfortunately for Framingham State, Franklin Pierce's Matt Horan sealed the victory with another unassisted goal at 2:36 in overtime, securing the 3-2 win for the Ravens.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • The Rams' efforts were led by goaltender Liam Kilgallen, who made 20 saves in the game. Maxymilian Banoun made 37 saves for the Ravens 

  • Framingham State had a total of 12 penalty minutes on six infractions, while Franklin Pierce received 28 penalty minutes on 10 infractions.
