Late Surge Not Enough as JWU Bests Ice Hockey; 4-2

FraminghamMass.  The Johnson & Wales ice hockey team jumped out to a four goal lead over Framingham State and was able to hold on for a 4-2 victory at Loring Arena on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS:

- Score: Johnson & Wales 4, Framingham State 2

- Records: Framingham State (1-10), Johnson & Wales (3-9)

- Location: Loring Arena - FraminghamMass.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Johnson & Wales jumped to an early 1-0 lead when Sam Band finished off a setup from behind the net from Kevin Bite in the 7th minute of the first period.

  • The visitors tallied again, this time on the powerplay, in the 14th minute when Carter Elrod found the back of the net with a helper coming from Jake Glod.

  • The Rams had a couple good looks in the closing minute of the first period but Jaxon Friedman kept the hosts off the board with a couple nice saves.

  • JWU again scored on the man advantage when Declan Dennehy scored in the 8th minute of the second frame.

  • In the third the Wildcats scored their fourth of the night when Brendan Shandley sniped in a strike off the faceoff victory for JWU's third powerplay goal of the night.

  • The Rams converted on their 5-on-3 advantage in the 15th minute of the third when Patrick Colgan buried an Ashton Collazo setup to get the Rams on the board. Again the Rams cashed in on the backend of that powerplay when Brian Kozek found the back of the net after a pass from Luca Olivo to cut the deficit to two goals but that's as close as they would come.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Friedman made 24 saves in the win for the Wildcats. Trevor Stenberg made 31 stops in the setback for the Rams.

  • The visitors outshot the Rams by a 35-to-26 margin. JWU was 3-for-7 on the powerplay while the Rams were 2-for-5 on the man advantage.

UP NEXT:

  • The Rams MASCAC contest on Thursday at Salem State is postponed, makeup date is to be determined. JWU hosts Castleton in a conference tilt on Friday at 7:30pm.
