Quick Start Leads SNHU to 2-1 Win Over Ice Hockey

Framingham, Mass.- The Southern New Hampshire men's ice hockey team scored two quick first period goals en route to a 2-1 victory over Framingham State in non-conference action Saturday evening at Loring Arena. 

THE BASICS:

- Score:  Southern New Hampshire 2, Framingham State 1

- Records:  Southern New Hampshire (3-1), Framingham State (0-2)

- Location: Loring Arena - Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Penman got on the board in the 4th minute of play when sophomore Joe Fiorino snuck a wrist shot into the cage off a helper from Dominic DiMambro.
• The visitors tallied again a few minutes later when Travis Quigley sent one home after a pass from Andrew Ray. 
• The Rams looked to have a great chance to score midway through the second frame when senior Jack Sheehan sprung free, but his shot hit the post and deflected out of trouble. 
• The Rams had back-to-back power play opportunities early in the third but solid goaltending by sophomore Alec Marshall kept the Rams off the board. 
• Rams sophomore Bryan Whelan looked to cut the deficit in half with under ten minutes to play when a long pass sent him on a breakaway. He beat the goalie with a deke to the right but the shot clanged off the post and was cleared out of the zone. 
• The Rams got on the board with just under four minutes to play when Soren Colstrup sent in a wrist shot over the goalie's right shoulder after a pass from Trevor Lewandoski to make it a one score game. 
• The Rams pulled the goalie in the final moments but could not find the equalizer. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Marshall made 29 stops in goal for SNHU. Freshman Blake Carlson made 53 saves in his first collegiate action for the Rams. 
• The Penman outshot the Rams by a 55-to-30 margin including a 21-to-5 clip in the 2^nd period.
• The visitors were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Rams were 0-for-4 on the man advantage.

The Penman return to the ice on Friday, November 15^th when they travel to Post for the first of a two-game set starting at 7:30 pm. The Rams travel to MASCAC foe Plymouth State on Thursday, November 14^th for a 6pm puck drop.
