UMD Downs Ice Hockey in MASCAC Action

New Bedford, Mass.— Three goals in each period, paced by four from sophomore Nicholas Short (Los Angeles, Calif.), earned UMass a 9-0 triumph over Framingham State in MASCAC action Saturday evening Hetland Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• An early score for the host Corsairs got the offense going as the trio of sophomore Eric Bolden (Oswego, Ill.), senior Mason Nichols (Oviedo, Fla.), and freshman Blake Harlow (Pelham, Ala.) took advantage of the power play chance, working the puck from the center to the right to the left for a 1-0 lead
• A moment later, senior Hunter Wilhoite (Brentwood, Tenn.) registered his first of three points on his setup for freshman Jimmy Pelton (Syracuse, N.Y.) that doubled the Blue and Gold's scoring.
• UMass Dartmouth senior Jonathan Ruiz (Williamstown, N.J.) collected his first goal of the season just after the 17^th minute of play in the opening period, tucking his shot in following the feed from junior teammate Steven Leonard (Rockaway Park, N.J.).
• Leonard came back early in the second stanza for another point, this time on the scoring end, finishing off a play that originally started with his brother, Sean.
• Short connected on his first score of the afternoon less than two minutes later to tally his first point. He would grab another despite the Corsairs being shorthanded, assisting on senior Connor Court's (Swansea, Ill.) marker.
• The final period belonged to the West Coast product, as Short grabbed three straight including a pair of man-advantage scores.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• In between the pipes, Corsair senior Tommy Bay (Duluth, Ga.) earned his first career shutout as the net minder turned aside 11 shots.
• Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, PA) made 15 saves before giving way to Nolan Greene (Quincy, Mass.) who made 23 stops. 
• The Blue and Gold nearly replicated its last contest against Framingham, which was a 10-1 triumph on Feb. 15.
• The Corsairs put up 47 shots on goal, with their most coming in the final frame (21).
