Fitchburg Edges Men’s Ice Hockey in MASCAC Action

Framingham, Mass. – Fitchburg State scored twice on the power play and added a short-handed goal to skate to a 6-4 win over Framingham State Thursday evening in Framingham. With the win the Falcons improve to 9-5-1 and 4-4-1 in the MASCAC. The Rams are now 3-10-2 and 2-6 in league play.

The Rams opened up scoring just over two minutes into the game when Brandon Hamner scored with an assist from Walker Hamilton. The Falcons answered about halfway through the period when Josh Victor beat Rams goalie Adam Calabrese with assists from Christopher Vicario and Patrick Germain.

Kevin Perry scored back-to-back goals including a short-handed score to open the second for the Falcons. Tyler Colacchio answered with and unassisted score for the Rams but a Framingham penalty set up a power play for the Falcons that Vicario would convert to push the Fitchburg lead to 4-2. Jake McKinnon would score in the final minute of the third to send the teams to the locker room with a one score game.

The Rams would tie the game in the early moments of the third when Ryan Paul delivered from Matt Siegel. After some nice goaltending by Brian McGrath to preserve the Falcons lead Gordon scored an empty netter in the final minute.

McGrath made 38 saves in the win for the Falcons. Calabrese turned away 31 in the setback for the Rams.
