Plymouth Scores Six Straight Goals to Defeat Ice Hockey 6-1

Framingham, Mass. – The Plymouth State Panthers scored three second period goals and added two more scored in the third to defeat the Framingham State Rams by a score of 6-1 in MASCAC action Thursday evening at Loring Arena. With the win the Panthers improve to 6-2-1 (4-1-0 MASCAC) and the Rams fall to 2-6-2 (1-3-0 MASCAC).

The Rams jumped out to an early lead when Jack Pierson (Livonia, MI) forced a turnover in the neutral zone and converted the ensuing breakaway in the opening minutes.

The Panthers answered just a few moments later when Christian La Croix (Northford, Conn.) poked in a deflection from Victor Bergstrom (Angelholm, Sweden) to send the game into the first intermission locked at one.  

The Panthers broke the tie about midway through the second period when Drake Longaker (San Jose, CA) scored a power play goal with assists from Ludvig Steenberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and JR Barone (West Chester, PA).  After killing a five-minute major penalty the visitors added two more late in the period in quick succession. Peter Laviolette (Nashville, Tenn.) scored with Tim Larocque (Middleboro, Mass.) and Tim Perron (Northboro, Mass.) assisting. Then just 33 seconds later Barone scored with assists from Larocque and Laviolette.

The visitors added two more tally's in the third when Bergstrom scored about halfway through the frame with assists from Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, Texas) & Matt Volonnino (Hackettstowm, NJ). The Volonnino scored on the power play in the final minute with assists from Stevens and Caleb O'Brien (Saginaw, MI) to reach the final margin.

The Panthers outshot the Rams 42-to-16 and were 2-of-5 on the power play to the Rams 0-for-4.

Andreas Pettersson (Trollhattan, Sweden) turned away 15 shots in his first action of the season for the Panthers. Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) turned away 36 shots in the setback for the Rams.

The Rams return to the ice on Saturday, December 2nd when they travel to Salem State. The Panthers host Westfield State on the same day.
