Stonehill Soars Past Men’s Ice Hockey; 6-3

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State men's ice  hockey team fell to visiting Stonehill by a 6-3 margin in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Loring Arena. With the win the Skyhawks push their record to 6-83 while the Rams slip to 3-11.

The Skyhawks opened up scoring just 70 seconds into the contest when Brian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) punched a rebound into the back of the net with Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, NY) & Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Mass.) assisting. The visitors added to their first period lead just over five minutes later when Thomas DePoalo (Mendham, NJ) scored with help from Richard Harris (Grand Island, NY).

The two teams skated the next 20 minutes without a score but the road team added two quick scores six minutes into the second frame to go up 4-0. Brendan White (North Reading, Mass.) scored with DePoalo assisting and then Higgins scored his second of the night with assists from White and Dorgan. Stonehill would strike again just past the halfway mark when Tom Jenkins (Canton, Mass.) scored shorthanded with an assist being credited to Kevin Airoldi (Kennebunk, ME).

The Rams got on the board in the 17th minute of the second frame when Keith Barnaby (Leominster, Mass.) scored a power-play goal with Hayden Lyle(North Kingston, RI) assisting.

The Skyhawks opened the 3rd with a power-play goal of their own when Dorgan scored from Harris and Higgins.

The hosts started chipping away just after the halfway point of the third when Mark Essery (Rockfall, CT) scored a power-play goal with an assist from Richard O'Connor (North Andover, Mass.) at the 11:31 mark. Just a bit over two minutes later the Rams struck again with a score from Chris Andre (New Bedford, Mass.) with Melvin Nichols (Alexandria, VA) & Zack D'Errico (Concord, NH) on the assist but that is as close as the Rams would come.

Stonehill goalie William Palmer (Cranston, RI) made 28 saves in the victory for the Skyhawks. Scott Nicolich (Glen Cove, NY) turned away 22 shots in the first 26 minutes before giving way to Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, PA) who stopped 22 in the final 32 minutes in net.

The Rams return to the ice on Thursday, January 21st when they host MASCAC leader Plymouth State for a 7:40 p.m. faceoff. Stonehill will host SNHU in an NE-10 matchup on the same night at 7:00 p.m.
