Men's Basketball Closes Season with Thrilling 71-67 Victory over Fitchburg State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team closed the regular season with a thrilling 71-67 victory over Fitchburg State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Falcons used a 9-2 run midway through the first half opening up a 17-10 lead. The Rams countered with an 11-3 run of their own capped by a JD Okafor three to take a 21-20 lead with just over four to play. The two teams traded points and the lead to close the half with the Falcons taking a 31-30 lead into the locker room. 

  • The start of the second half mirrored the end of the first half with the two teams trading the lead back and forth over the first eight minutes and neither team leading by more than a couple.  

  • Trailing 47-46 with just over ten to play in the second half, the Rams rattled off a 12-2 run that featured six points from Adonis Vashon taking a 58-49 lead with 5:55 on the clock. 

  • The Falcons used a 10-3 run over the next three minutes to close the gap to 61-59 with just under three to go.  

  • A Joshua Saint Jean layup pushed the Rams lead back to 65-61 with 1:46 on the clock, but the Falcons answered with back-to-back hoops tying the game at 65-65 with under a minute to play. 

  • The Rams retook the lead on a Kyle Philistin layup with 36.6 on the clock. Fitchburg missed on the following possession and the Rams secured the rebound with 19.1 to play. The Falcons were forced to foul, and Bryan Thompson sank both pushing the lead to 69-65.  

  • Frederick Siayor sank a pair of free throws for the Falcons cutting the lead to 69-67 with 10.9 on the clock, but the Falcons fouled again, and Philistin sank both pushing the lead to 71-69. On the Falcons ensuing possession, Javaun Calhoun came up with a huge block for the Rams to seal the victory. 

  • Philistin finished the game with 19 points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal for the Rams, while Saint Jean finished the night with a double double of 13 points and 14 rebounds. 

  • Vashon chipped in with 14 points off the bench, while Thompson and Harrison Boadu chipped in with eight points apiece. 

  • Prior to the game, the Rams honored their three seniors – Jahden Erold, Thompson and Johsue Castillo – who were in their final season with the Rams.
