Men's Basketball Come Back Falls Short at Fitchburg State

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team erased a 15 points deficit and trailed by two with under 10 seconds remaining, but the Rams attempt at a game-winning three rattled out as Fitchburg State held on for a 61-59 victory over the Rams in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Parkinson Gym.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams were led offensively by JD Okafor. Okafor connected on 4-of-12 from the field for 14 points and added seven boards, a steal and a block. 

  • Bryan Thompson added 13 points on 5-of-8 from the floor including 2-of-4 from behind the arc. Thompson added four boards, two assists and a steal. 

  • Adonis Vashon finished the night with nine points and four rebounds, while Kyle Philistin also tallied nine points with seven rebounds. 

  • Jahden Erold added eight points and eight rebounds with two assists. 

  • The Falcons opened a 15 point lead with just under eight minutes to play in the opening half, but the Rams began chipping away at the lead and trailed by just nine (33-24) at the half. 

  • The Rams continued to close the gap in the second and a Thompson jumper with just over three to play pulled them within two (55-53). 

  • After a Falcons' three, a Vashon layup and a Philistin steal and dunk closed the gap to one, 58-57, with 1:41 to play. 

  • A layup for the Falcons pushed the lead back to three (60-57), but a pair of Okafor free throws with 30 seconds on the clock closed the gap back to one (60-59).  

  • The Rams were forced to foul, and the Falcons hit the first but missed the second. The Rams secured the rebound and pushed the ball up the floor, but a last second three bounced off the rim giving the Falcons the win.
