Second Half Surge Sends Worcester Through Men’s Basketball

Framingham, Mass. The Worcester State men's basketball team used a 17-0 second-half run en route to a 72-59 MASCAC victory over Framingham State in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon in Framingham.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Worcester State 72, Framingham State 59 

- Records:  Worcester State (11-7, 5-0 MASCAC), Framingham State (5-13, 0-5 MASCAC) 

- Location:  Logan Gymnasium Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • A physical back and forth first half with neither side leading by more than two possessions found Worcester State up 30-27 after both teams traded three-pointers to close the half.  

  • The Lancers held a small advantage for the first eight plus minutes of the second before going on a 17-0 run to push their lead to 20 points highlighted by back-to-back triples and two free throws by Sam Dion. 

  • Dion paced the Lancers with 23 points going 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Zion Hendrix picked up 14 while Ryan Rubenskas and Aaron Nkrumah each scored 12. Rubenskas earned a double-double scoring 12 with 11 rebounds and adding five blocked shots.  

  • The Rams were paced offensively by Kyle Phillistin who scored 14 while adding five assists.  

  • The Rams shot just 35 % from the field and 46% from long range. The Lancers were 45% from the floor and 41% from downtown.

The Rams return to the court on Wednesday, January 24thwhen they travel to the Fitchburg State for a 7pm MASCAC matchup. The Lancers will host MCLA on the same day at 7:30pm.
