Men's Basketball Holds Off Me.-Augusta for Thrilling 73-70 Victory

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team sank three free throws in the final minute as the Rams held off Me.-Augusta for a hard fought 73-70 victory this afternoon in non-conference action at Logan Gymnasium.   

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 73, Me.-Augusta 70 

- Records: Framingham State (5-11), Me.-Augusta (9-7) 

- Location: Logan Gymnasium Framingham, Mass.          

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • After trading the lead to start the game, Me.-Augusta led 9-6 just over four minutes into the contest. The Rams countered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes taking a 16-9 lead. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to as many as 13, 31-18, on a Joshua Saint Jean three-point play with just under seven minutes remaining in the half.  

  • Me.-Augusta would use a 15-2 run capped by a Donte Sharpe free throw tying the game at 33-33 with 2:30 on the clock. The two teams traded points down the stretch and the game went to the half tied at 37-37. 

  • The start of the second half mirrored the first with the two teams trading points and the lead, but the Rams opened an eight point advantage (49-41) on an Adonis Vashon jumper five minutes into the frame. 

  • The Moose countered with a 14-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 55-51 lead. The Rams tied the game once again at 65-65 on a Vashon three with 4:49 on the clock. 

  • The two teams traded points over the next three minutes and the game was tied 70-70 with 1:28 to play.  

  • After both teams did not score, Harrison Boadu sank one of two from the line for the Rams putting them up 71-70 with 49.2 on the clock. 

  • After the Moose missed on the ensuing possession, they were forced to foul twice sending Jahden Erold to the line for 1-and-1 with nine seconds on the clock. Erold sunk both putting the Rams lead at three 73-70.  

  • The Moose had a chance with one final three point attempt from the top of the key that bounced off the rim giving the Rams the victory. 

  • Vashon paced the Rams with 17 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Saint Jean finished the game with a double double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. 

  • JD Okafor chipped in with eight points off the bench, while Tyrell Staples-Santos added seven. 

  • Elijah Smith led the Moose with 20 points and five boards off the bench, while Zach Maturo finished with 15 and 10 assists.
