Men's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Rivier in Overtime

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University men's basketball team received a three from Kyle Philistin with 14.3 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but the Rams shot for game tying three at the end of overtime rattled out giving Rivier a 75-72 victory this evening in non-conference action at Logan Gymnasium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • In a first half that saw four ties and seven lead changes, the Raiders used a 6-0 run, opening a seven point lead (34-27) with just over four to play in the half.  

  • The Rams closed the gap to two on a pair of occasions including a layup from Josh Saint Jean with 55 seconds remaining in the half, but a layup from Joe Melvin with six seconds remaining sent Rivier to the locker room leading 38-34.  

  • A three to open the second gave the Raiders a seven point lead, but the Rams chipped away using a 16-6 run reclaiming the lead 50-47 on a Jonathan Noel layup with 12:03 on the clock. 

  • A layup from Adonis Vashon with 3:19 on the clock pulled the Rams to within one, 59-58. Rivier would rattle off a 6-0 run capped by a three from Odarius Cade opening up a 65-58 lead with 1:35 to play. 

  • The Rams chipped away in the final minute tying the game on a Kyle Philistin three with 14.3 seconds remaining. A last shot by the Raiders did not fall and the game went to overtime tied 66-66. 

  • After trading points to start overtime, a three from Ra'Quan Groves put Rivier on top 73-70 with 52.7 seconds on the clock. A Philistin layup closed the gap to 73-72 with 34.5 remaining. 

  • The Rams fouled and Rivier sank both with 16.3 on the clock. Rivier opted to foul sending Noel to line for the Rams for one and one. After a miss, the Rams were forced to foul again.  

  • After two misses by Rivier, the Rams had a chance from the line as Rivier fouled once again. The Rams missed the front end of the one and one again, but got the rebound and Noel had a look from the top of the key as time expired that rattled out.   

  • Noel paced the Rams with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Philistin finished the game with 21 points and just missed the double double as he grabbed nine boards. 

  • Adonis Vashon finished with 11 points and five boards, while Saint Jean finished the game with 13 boards and six points. 

  • Owens led the Raiders with 25 points and six boards, while Cade finished the game with 17 points and four boards.
