Men's Basketball Fifth Seed in MASCAC Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team has earned the fifth seed in this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.    

The Rams finished the regular season 6-18 overall and 5-7 in the MASCAC.  The Rams will travel to fourth seed Bridgewater State on Tuesday, February 19th for a quarterfinal game beginning at 5:30 p.m.  The winner will advance to face top seed Salem State University on Thursday, February 21st at 7 p.m. in one semifinal.

The Rams were led offensively this season by senior guard Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.).  Payton averaged 22.5 points per game while shooting 45% from the floor and adding five rebounds and three assists a game.  Sophomore Cameren McCloud-Thomas (Springfield, Mass.) has had a solid sophomore season averaging 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while junior Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) is chipping in with nine points and 6.6 boards a contest.

The tournament field is rounded out by third seed Fitchburg State University who hosts sixth seed Worcester State University on Tuesday in the other quarterfinal.  The winner of that contest will advance to face second seed Westfield State University on Thursday in the other semifinal. 

The two semifinal winners will meet on Saturday at the highest remaining seed in the championship game. The winner of the championship game receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
