Men’s Basketball Sixth Seed in MASCAC Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's basketball team has earned the sixth seed in this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.    

The Rams finished the regular season 6-19 overall and 2-10 in the MASCAC.  The Rams will travel to third seed MCLA on Tuesday, February 20th for a quarterfinal game beginning at 6 p.m.  The winner will advance to face second seed Bridgewater State University on Thursday, February 22nd at 7 p.m. in one semifinal.

The Rams were led offensively this season by junior guard Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.).  Payton averaged 16.1 points, five rebounds and two assists per game.  Junior forward Charles Valbrun (Hyde Park, Mass.) followed averaging 9.1 points and 5.5 points per game, while sophomore Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) chipped in with 8.9 points per game. 

The tournament field is rounded out by fourth seed Fitchburg State University who hosts fifth seed Westfield State University on Tuesday in the other quarterfinal.  The winner of that contest will advance to face top seed Salem State University on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal. 

The two semifinal winners will meet on Saturday at the highest remaining seed in the championship game. The winner of the championship game receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
