Payton Drops 31 as Men’s Basketball Pushes Past Worcester State

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State men's basketball team held on for a 69-61 victory over Worcester State Wednesday evening in MASCAC action. With the win the Rams improve to 5-10 and 1-1 in league play. The Lancers are now 1-14 and 0-2 in the conference.

The Rams were paced by junior Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) who scored a game-high 31 points with four boards and five assists. Senior Ben Roache (Dighton, Mass.) led the team in rebounds with nine while Cameren McCloud-Thomas (Springfield, Mass.) and Kenny Seitz (Milford, Mass.) both chipped in eight points.

The Lancers were led by sophomore Shaun McCarthy (Oxford, Mass.) who paced the team with 24 points and 12 boards for the double-double. Cal Howes (Maynard, Mass.) added 19 points with seven boards and two steals for Worcester.

The Rams jumped out to a big lead taking a 35-16 advantage into the break taking advantage of the Lancers struggles from the floor. The Lancers clawed their way back into the game cutting the Rams lead to 8 points after a Howes trey with about 4 minutes to play but the Rams were able to hold on for the win.

The Rams shot 43% from the floor and 31% from long range in the win. The Lancers rebounded well to shoot 32% from the field after only converting 11% in the first half.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, January 13th when they host Salem State in MASCAC action at 3:00pm. The Lancers travel to MCLA on the same day.
