Men’s Basketball Drops Opener to Wentworth; 61-45
Framingham, Mass.- Wentworth senior Jason Ganley (Northbridge, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points, including his 1,000 career point late in the second half, to lead the Leopards past Framingham State by a score of 61-45 Wednesday evening in Framingham. The contest was the season opener for both squads.
Ganley paced the Leopards attack with 19 points, and a game-high 9 rebounds. Sophomore Stephen Azums (Hyde Park, Mass.) added 18 points from the bench while senior Cesar Fulcar (Watertown, Mass.) tallied 14 points on the evening.
Sophomore Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored a team-high 12 points going 2-for-5 from long range for the Rams. Senior Kenny Seitz (Milford, Mass.) added ten points while freshman Trevor Manyak (Bolton, Mass.) threw up 8 points in his first collegiate game.
After some back-and-forth play in the first part of the opening frame the Leopards pulled away. With the game tied at 16 the visitors peeled off a 16-2 run over about a six minute frame late in the first half to take a 32-18 lead that they would never relinquish.
The visitors were 25-for-55 (47.3%) from the floor and 4-of-13 (30.8%) from long range. The Rams were just 18-of-51 (35.5%) from the floor and 5-for-22 (22.7%) from beyond the arc.
The Rams return to the court on Friday, November 17th when they play RPI as part of the Roger Williams Imitational in Bristol, RI. Wentworth will play New England College on the same day in Middlebury, VT in a tournament hosted by Middlebury College.
