Wesleyan Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat Men's Basketball 71-54

Framingham, Mass. - Jason Mendell (Bedford, NY) poured in a team-best 21 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to lead visiting Wesleyan to a 71-54 victory over Framingham State in a non-conference men's basketball contest played Tuesday evening.  With the result, the Cardinals bump their record to 2-3 overall while the Rams slip to 2-4 on the season.

Mendall and teammate Shasha Brown (Harlem, NY) posted identical 8-for-11 shooting numbers on the night for Wesleyan as Mendall drained a trio of 3-pointers.  The duo was joined in double figures by Mike Callaghan (Madison, CT) and Glen Thomas (Washington, DC), who registered 13 and 10 points respectively.

Thomas narrowly missed a double-double, collecting nine rebounds despite being saddled with first half foul trouble while Callaghan hauled in eight boards.  As a team, the Cardinals transformed a commanding 45-26 edge on the glass into 24 second chance points.

Wesleyan shot 50% from the floor as a team in the first half en route to taking a 38-26 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.  The Cardinals pushed the lead to as many as 26 midway through the second stanza.

Darius Carter (Boston, MA) led all players with 22 points for Framingham.  The freshman canned 3-of-4 3-pointers while registering his 22 points in just 26 minutes of action.  The rest of the Ram offensive attack was balanced as Caesar Veal (Dorchester, MA) tossed in six points and Allen St. Surin (Brockton, MA) and Royce Veal (Dorchester, MA) each added five.

Leonardo Medina (Brockton, MA) and St. Surin helped anchor the Ram defensive efforts.  Medina swiped three steals while St. Surin tallied a game-best three blocks.

Both teams return to the court on Thursday.  Framingham State ventures to Waltham to take on Brandeis at 7pm while Wesleyan returns home to face Albertus Magnus at 7:30pm.
