Men's Basketball Defeated by Trinity in Harbor Invitational Final

Boston, Mass. – A balanced offensive attack that saw four players in double-figures helped the Trinity College men's basketball team defeat Framingham State University, 61-45, to capture the 26th Annual UMass Boston Harbor Invitational this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston. With the decision, the Bantams improve their record to 4-1 on the year, while the Rams fall to 2-3.

The Bantams came out strong, opening the game on a 5-0 spurt capped by a downtown bucket from senior guard Brian Ford (Bronx, NY) just 1:35 into the action. The Rams were able to answer with a 6-2 run to pull within one at 7-6, but Trinity immediately responded scoring the game's next seven points to take a 14-6 lead with 11:15 remaining in the first half.

A three point bucket by Framingham State senior guard Royce Veal (Dorchester, MA) cut the lead to seven at 22-15 with 4:26 remaining in the session but the Bantams would roll off another 7-0 run fueled by two layups by junior center Chris Applegate (High Point, NC) to extend the lead to 29-15, Trinity, heading into the halftime intermission.

Over the first ten minutes of action in the second half, Framingham State was able to chip away at the deficit to make it a five point game following a jumper by freshman guard Darius Carter (Boston, MA) that made it 34-29 in favor of the Bantams.

Trinity would answer with an immediate 9-0 run on five points from senior forward Luke MacDougall (Baldwinsville, NY) and four points from Ford to match the halftime margin of 14 points at 43-29 with 9:00 minutes to play. An and-one bucket and free throw by junior guard Allen Saint-Surin (Brockton, MA) cut the lead to 11 points (43-32) on the following possession but it was the closest the Rams would come in the contest as the Bantams were able to hold on and coast to the 61-45 wire-to-wire victory.

For Trinity, MacDougall led all scorers with 16 points on 7-14 shooting from the floor while sophomore guard Cameron Sutton was next in line with 11 points on 4-5 shooting from the field. Ford and Applegate each contributed 10 points while Applegate also recorded a game-high 10 rebounds for the double-double en route to the victory and also being named the Harbor Invitational's Most Valuable Player.

Veal paced the Rams netting a team-high 14 points and was 5-5 in the game from the charity stripe. Saint-Surin was also in double-figures with 10 points while grabbing four rebounds.

On the game, Trinity owned a 36-20 points in the paint advantage and outrebounded Framingham State, 38-30.

The Bantams are back in action Tuesday, November 30 when they head to Danbury, CT to face Western Connecticut State University in an 8:00 p.m. match up while the Rams host Wesleyan the same day for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
