Men's Basketball Falls at WPI 90-56

Worcester, Mass. - WPI canned 22-of-28 first half field goal attempts en route to a 90-56 triumph versus Framingham State Tuesday night in its men's basketball home opener.  With the non-conference victory, WPI improves to 3-1 on the young season while the Rams slip to 1-2 overall. 

Eleven different players registered baskets for the Engineers during the opening stanza, which saw the hosts connect on an eye-popping 17-of-19 attempts on 2-pointers, leading to a 30-14 edge in points in the paint.  The Crimson and Gray also outrebounded the visitors 20-11 and used a pair of Ben Etten (Hollis, NH) 3-pointers in the final minute to take a 54-26 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.        

Five different WPI players registered new career highs in points as 14 players dented the scoring column.  Mike Byron (Easton, MA) led the way of those establishing new career-bests with 12 points while David Brown (Lowell, MA) added nine, Joe Wesoloski (Arlington, MA) eight, David White Jr. (Worcester, MA) seven and Jameel Galloway (Randolph, MA) six.  The quintet spearheaded a WPI effort that saw the Engineers receive 62 points from its bench.

Etten tossed in 10 points for the Engineers while preseason All-America Jeffrey Robinson (Granby, CT) chipped in with nine.  Galloway shared game-high rebounding honors with seven while White Jr. led all players with six assists.  

Royce Veal (Dorchester, MA) paced the Framingham State attack with 15 points, including draining 7-of-8 free throws.  Nathan Leonel (Framingham, MA) and Adeyemi Ajao (Randolph, MA) tossed in nine and eight respectively while Darius Carter (Boston, MA) gobbled up seven boards.

Both teams are off until after the Thanksgiving holiday.  WPI heads to Milton next Tuesday to take on Curry at 7 p.m., while Framingham State participates this weekend in the 26th annual Harbor Invitational.  The Rams open play Friday at 7:30 p.m. versus host UMass Boston.
