Field Hockey Downs Bridgewater; Advances to MASCAC Semi-final

Framingham, Mass. The third seed Framingham State field hockey team defeated #6 seed Bridgewater State by a score of 3-2 in the first round of the 2023 MASCAC Tournament. 

The Rams advance to the semi-final round hosted by #2 seed Westfield State Friday afternoon at 3:30pm.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  #3 Framingham State 3, #6 Bridgewater State 2 

- Records: Framingham State (10-9), Bridgewater State (4-12-1) 

- Location: Maple Street Field Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • After a scoreless first the Bears took the lead in the second quarter when Madison Ellis finished off a cross from Lexi James in the 19th minute.  

  • Right around the 20th minute it appeared the Bears took a 2-0 lead, but the goal was taken off the board after a conversation between the officials.  

  • Coming out of the half the Rams scored in the 32nd minute when Kaylee Beck tapped in a 50/50 ball in front of the net sent in by Angelina Serra 

  • With 20 seconds left in the third the Bears recaptured the lead when Jordyn Perry settled a pass and snuck one inside the post.  

  • The Rams answered when they were granted a corner as time expired in the third quarter. On the corner play, a rebound landed in front of Allison Harmouth who tipped in the loose ball to tie the game again at two.  

  • The Rams took the lead in the 50th minute when Isabella Kondi sent in a strike through the Bridgewater goalie's pads on a corner play.  

  • Kaitlyn Tello made three saves in the win for the Rams while Kailey Hutchinson turned away nine shots in goal for the Bears. 

  • The Rams held the advantage in shots 17-to-6 and penalty corners 6-to-3.
