Worcester Holds Off Field Hockey; 3-2

Framingham, Mass. The Framingham State University field hockey team was defeated by Worcester State by a score of 3-2 in MASCAC action Wednesday evening in Framingham.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score: Worcester State 3, Framingham State 2 

- Records: Framingham State (9-8, 5-4 MASCAC), Worcester State (10-6, 8-1 MASCAC) 

- Location: Maple Street Field Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Framingham jumped out to an early lead in the fourth minute when Ashley Malmquist sent a long strike towards the left post that was tipped in by Emma Bailey.  

  • The Lancers tied it up a few moments later when Grace Adams put one between the pipes to make it a 1-1 game.  

  • Adams scored again in the 29th minute to give the Lancers the lead and picked up her hattrick and crucial insurance goal in the 44th minute to put the Lancers up 3-1.  

  • The Rams pressured in the fourth and got one back when Brandi Core finished off Malmquist's setup to cut the margin to one but that's as close as they'd come.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Framingham FSU freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Tello made nine stops in goal for the Rams.  

  • Madison Ferrara made ten saves between the pipes for the Lancers.  

  • Worcester held a slight advantage in shots 18-to-15 while the Rams forced 11 penalty corners to the Lancer's three.

The Rams close their regular season slate on Saturday when they travel to Westfield State for a MASCAC clash at 5pm.
