Field Hockey Beats WestConn in Double Overtime

Danbury, Conn. – Framingham State senior Brandi Core scored with just over three minutes left in the second overtime to send the Rams to a 2-1 win over WestConn in non-league play Tuesday afternoon.

THE BASICS:

- Score:   Framingham State 2, WestConn 1 (2OT)

- Records: Framingham State (8-6), WestConn (4-9)

- Location: Westside Athletic Complex – Danbury, Conn.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The visitors seized an early 1-0 advantage when rookie midfielder Ashley Malmquist notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season just 6:07 into the contest.

  • The hosts countered when Schoen took a pass from junior midfielder Reilly Schmidt and blasted a shot into the back of the cage, good for her fifth marker of the year, knotting the count at 1-1 midway thru the third quarter.

  • After ending regulation deadlocked, the Rams would outshoot the Wolves in the two overtime sessions, 9-0. WestConn senior goalkeeper Kayla Hnasko made several stellar kick saves on shots labeled for the corners. However, she couldn't stop them all. Malmquist found Core who was able to knock the game-winner into the open side of the twine with 3:09 left in double overtime.

  • Hnasko finished with seven saves, while rookie goalie Kaitlyn Tello turned aside two for the Rams.
