Field Hockey Falls to Conference Leader Worcester State 5-1

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University field hockey team was defeated at home this morning 5-1 by conference leader Worcester State University in Little East Conference (LEC) action at Maple Street Field.

THE BASICS:

- Scores: Worcester State 5, Framingham State 1

- Records: Framingham State (3-10, 1-7 LEC), Worcester State (11-2, 7-0 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Lancers took the lead midway through the first quarter with a goal after a penalty corner.  Senior Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) inserted the ball on the corner and then received a pass back that she laid off to junior Coley Hayes (Norwood, Mass.) who found the back of the cage.
  • The Lancers doubled their lead just over a minute later as Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) laid a pass off to junior Alexa Bobbin (Charlestown, RI) and Bobbin fired a shot into the net for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Rams cut the lead in half with just over seven minutes remaining in the quarter.  Freshman Bella Kondi (Canaan, NH) took a restart and fired a shot that bounced into the back of the net off the Lancers net minder.
  • In the second quarter, the Lancers once again capitalized on a penalty corner.  Antonelli inserted the ball on the corner to junior Sarah Duff (Warren, Mass.) and Duff hit Hopkins with a pass in front of the net for the 3-1 lead at the break.
  • The Lancers added a pair of goals from Hopkins in the third quarter pushing the lead to 5-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Lancers outshot the Rams 28-2 in the game.  Sophomore Jess Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the Lancers making one save in her 56 minutes of action.
  • Sophomore Jordan O'Boyle (Bradford, Mass.) took the loss in goal for the Rams allowing five goals while making 13 saves.
  • Rachel Hopkins paced the Lancer offense with three goals and a helper.

 

UP NEXT:

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they host Southern Maine for a LEC clash beginning at 3:45 p.m., while the Lancers host Castleton on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
