Field Hockey Wins Season Opener; Lucenta Picks Up First Career Victory

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State field hockey team defeated Bay Path University by a score of 6-1 in non-conference action on Saturday morning at Maple Street Field. With the win the Rams improve to 1-0 on the season and FSU 1^st year head coach Allie Lucenta earns her 1^st victory as a collegiate head coach.

The Rams opened up scoring just before the four-minute mark when Caitlin Baril (Lakeville, Mass.) tipped in a pass from Bailey Donelly (Framingham, Mass.) to give the Rams an early 1-0 advantage.

The Wildcats answered about halfway through the period when Josephine Clark (Belden, MS) tipped in a loose ball in front of the goal past the crashing goalkeeper.

The Rams scored twice to close the period with a 3-1 advantage. Their second goal of the game was off a penalty corner when Meaghann Ackerman (Littleton, Mass.) sent a long strike into the goal off a setup from Amie Souza (Taunton, Mass.). The hosts scored again with just over 7 minutes to go in the first half when Baril connected again from Bailey.

The Rams added three insurance goals in the second half. Less than 10 minutes into the 2^nd frame Donelly scored her first goal of the season with an assist coming from Chinyere Newsome (New Bedford, Mass.). Later in the period Ackerman scored her first of the year with help from Donelly then Sousa scored just moments later to reach the 6-1 final margin.

Bethany Rogers (Plymouth, Mass.) made 16 stops in net for the Wildcats. Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) earned the win for the Rams.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, September 6^th when they travel to Keene State to open up Little East action. The Wildcats travel to Rivier on Thursday, September 7^th.
