Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) scored a pair of first half tallies to lead the Framingham State University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Westfield State in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup at Maple Street Field on Saturday morning.

Kelly converted a penalty stroke at 11:04 and later scored her 11th of the season on a slow roller through traffic with 5:39 left in the frame. Westfield State's best chance came as rookie Holly Brouilette (Burlington, Mass.) turned and connected on a one-timer that was stopped by freshman goalkeeper Sarah Palace (Auburn, Mass.). Framingham State outshot the guests 10-2 and took five of the six penalty corners in the initial 35 minutes.

Senior Danielle Grenon (Somerset, Mass.) caught a break in the 43rd minute as her shot from outside the arc glanced off a Framingham State player and found the back of the cage to avoid the shutout. Despite being shorthanded for 13:38 in the stanza, including 10 minutes late in the half, and allowing the Owls to claim commanding margin in both shots (11-1) and penalty corners (9-5), the Rams held the guests off for their second LEC win of the campaign.

Palace stopped nine shots and improved to 6-5 while Owl freshman netminder Megan Fountaine (Scituate, Mass.) collected six saves in the setback (4-5). Senior Jess Rodier (Oxford, Mass.) went untested in the final 35 minutes and junior Ashley Spindel (Mendon, Mass.) added a defensive save in the fourth minute for the Owls. For the game, Westfield State held a slim 13-11 edge in shots while the penalty corners were even with 10 each.

The Rams (8-5, 2-5 LEC) head Lasell for the final non-conference test of the season on Thursday at 4 p.m. The Owls (5-6, 2-5 LEC) return home for a non-conference matchup against Smith on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
