Football Closes Season with 41-6 Victory over Worcester State

Worcester, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team closed the 2023 season this afternoon defeating Worcester State 41-6 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Coughlin Field. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 41, Worcester State 6 

-Records: Framingham State (5-4, 5-3 MASCAC), Worcester State (1-9, 1-7 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams defense held the Lancers to just 162 yards of offense in the game and returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns. 

  • Offensively, the Rams amasses 326 yards of total offense including 241 yards rushing. 

  • Devaun Ford rushed for 139 yards on 21 carries with a pair of touchdowns, while EJ Nichols rushed for 32 yards on three carries with a touchdown. Nichols also completed four passes for 85 yards in the game. Jaden Lewis made a pair of catches for 56 yards. 

  • Jared Martino and Chase Buono led the Rams defense in the game. Martino recorded 13 tackles including six solo with 2.5 sacks and an interception that he returned 35 yards for a touchdown. Buono finished the game with 12 tackles including 1.5 for a loss with a 30-yard interception return touchdown. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams got on the board first when Martino recorded a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown on the Lancers first possession of the game. 

  • The Rams added two more scores in the quarter on a three-yard Ford touchdown run and a 30-yard interception return from Buono to lead 21-0 after one. 

  • The only points of the second quarter came in the opening minutes of the frame with Manny Lara scored on a nine-yard run. 

  • The Lancers tallied their only points of the game in the third quarter, but the Rams answered with a 10-yard TD run from Nichols to make the score 34-6 after three. 

  • Ford found the end zone from one yard out in the fourth quarter to reach the final margin.
