Football Falls to Bridgewater 21-7 on Senior Day

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team was defeated 21-7 by Bridgewater State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Bowditch Field. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Bridgewater State 21, Framingham State 7 

-Records: Framingham State (4-4, 4-3 MASCAC), Bridgewater State (6-3, 6-1 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams recorded 262 yards of offense in the game including 123 yards rushing. Devaun Ford rushed for 99 yards in the game on 22 carries and went over the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the third time in his four years. 

  • EJ Nichols completed 16-of-33 for 139 yards with an interception, while also rushing for 22 yards on seven carries. Jaden Lewis made five catches in the game for 54 yards. 

  • The Bears totaled 305 yards of total offense including 160 yards on the ground. Adam Couch rushed for 90 yards on 20 carries with a score. 

  • James Calhoun completed 19-of-26 for 145 yards with a touchdown and a pick. Michael Nocera made seven catches for 89 yards with a score. 

  • The Rams defense was paced by 11 tackles apiece from Chase Buono and Najier Montiero. 

  • Jared Martino recorded 10 tackles in the game including one for a loss, while also returning an interception 99 yards for a touchdown.  

  • The Bears defense was led by 10 tackles from Kodi Saotone, while Brendan Albert finished the game with seven including two for a loss. 

  • Prior to the game, the Rams recognized their 11 seniors – Chase Buono, Tevin Cadet, Brian Callery, Devaun Ford, Anderson Larosiliere, Jared Martino, MoMo Nazaire, Donald Noudjom, Adeboye Oyaronbi, Johnny Rosario and Terry Smith – as part of Senior Day. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Bears got on the board on the game's opening drive when Nocera caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from James Calhoun. 

  • On the ensuing possession, the Rams moved the ball down the field and attempted a 29-yard field goal from Matthew Farley, but the kick was wide. 

  • The Rams received a forced fumble from MoMo Nazaire on the Bears next possession that was recovered by Monteiro, but were forced to punt keeping the game 7-0 in favor of the Bears.  

  • The Bears came up with a forced fumble and recovery early in the second quarter that they were able to capitalize on for their second score of the game – a four-yard touchdown run from Mack Driver with just over six to play in the half. 

  • The Rams got on the board on the final play of the first half when Martino corraled a deflected pass from Calhoun on the one-yard line and returned in 99 yards for a score. Farley converted the extra point and the Rams trailed 14-7 at the half. 

  • Bridgewater State scored the only points of the second half on a 16-yard Couch touchdown with just under 10 to play in the third quarter.
