Football Falls to UMass Dartmouth 33-7

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team was defeated 33-7 in their home opener this afternoon by UMass Dartmouth in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Bowditch Field. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  UMass Dartmouth 33, Framingham State 7 

-Records: Framingham State (0-2, 0-1 MASCAC), UMass Dartmouth (3-0, 1-0 MASCAC)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • UMass Dartmouth amassed 399 yards of offense in the game including 217 passing, while the Rams accumulated 227 yards including 181 on the ground. 

  • Devaun Ford paced the Rams ground game with 157 yards rushing on 27 attempts. Ford averaged 5.8 yards per carry with a long of 37. 

  • Henry Bourque completed 3-of-6 passes for 36 yards and added 29 yards on the ground on seven carries. 

  • The Ram defense was paced by 14 tackles from Jared Martino including 11 solo stops and four for a loss with a pass breakup. DJ Johnson finished the game with four solo stops, an interception and a pass break up. 

  • Dante Aviles-Santos completed 15-of-31 for the Corsairs for 217 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Marvens Jean rushed for 68 yards on six carries with a touchdown and caught six passes for 52 yards. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • On the first possession of the game, Kymauny Roland came up with a sack/fumble of Aviles-Santos that was recovered by Shawn Ashe giving the Rams the ball near midfield. Ford started the drive with a 37-yard rush and a 16-yard run giving the Rams first and goal from the two. Noah Demoranville found the back of the endzone, and the Rams led 7-0 after Matt Farley's extra point. 

  • UMass Dartmouth answered with a two-play, 50-yard drive capped by a Jean touchdown run tying the game at 7-7 with just under 10 minutes to play in the opening quarter. 

  • UMass Dartmouth pushed the lead to 13-7 on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Aviles-Santos to Angle Sanchez with just under four to go in the first. 

  • UMass Dartmouth added a touchdown in the second quarter extending the lead to 20-7 at the half. 

  • A pair of fourth quarter touchdowns on a 22-yard reception by Jalen Kopecky and a 16-yard run by Luis Gonzalez gave the Corsairs the 33-7 victory.
