Football Opens Season with Loss at Salve Regina

Newport, R.I. - The Framingham State University football team opened the 2023 season with a 29-0 loss to Salve Regina University this evening in non-conference action. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Salve Regina 29, Framingham State 0 

-Records: Framingham State (0-1), Salve Regina (2-0) 

- Location: Toppa Field Newport, RI 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Both teams struggled offensively in the game with the Rams amassing just 160 yards of total offense while the Seahawks accumulated just 187. 

  • The Rams recorded four sacks in the game, while the Seahawks added three with four interceptions. 

  • Jared Martino paced the Rams defense with nine tackles including 2.5 for a loss with a sack, while Chase Buono added seven tackles. Kymauny Roland picked up six tackles including a pair of sacks. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Salve got on the board just under five minutes into the game on a one yard touchdown run from Ryan Jamz. The Seahawks added a 33-yard touchdown pass from Jake Stack to Josh Letellier extending the lead to 14-0 after one. 

  • A 36-yard field goal from Chris DiBella in the second quarter put the hosts up 17-0 at the half. 

  • Salve added a touchdown and safety in the third quarter and another DiBella field goal in the fourth quarter to reach the final margin.

The Rams are back in action next Saturday when they host UMass Dartmouth at 12 p.m.
