Defense Holds Falcons to Negative Yards as Football Soars Past Fitchburg State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team held Fitchburg State University to negative yards of offense as the Rams defeated the Falcons 47-0 this afternoon in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tilt at Bowditch Field. 

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams defense held the Falcons to –19 yards of total offense in the game while also recording seven sacks and two interceptions. 

  • Dylan DeWolfe led the way with seven tackles, a half sack and three tackles for a loss. Cully Curran chipped in with five tackles, one for a loss and a pair of interceptions including one returned for a touchdown. 

  • Daniel Oloyede recorded five solo tackles in the game including three sacks for a loss of 17 yards. Nick Ashley added 1.5 sacks, while Frank Andrews and Anderson Larosilliere each recorded a sack. 

  • The Rams amassed 384 yards of offense in the game including 203 yards rushing. 

  • Devaun Ford totaled 227 yards of offense in the game with four touchdowns. Ford rushed for 141 yards on 15 carries with three scores and added three catches for 86 yards and a score. 

  • Terry Smith completed 10-of-18 pass attempts for 181 yards with a touchdown and no picks. 

  • Camren Topkin led the Falcon defense with seven tackles including five solo, while Xiry Thibeaux added five stops, all solo, a forced fumble and pass break up.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams got on the board midway through the first quarter after Curran's first interception of the game. A long run by Ford brought the ball to the one and he capped the six-play, 62 yard drive with a one-yard scoring run. 

  • The Rams extended the lead in the closing minutes of the first on a two-yard touchdown run by Noah Leonard. 

  • Matthew Farley converted a 21-yard field goal with 10:55 on the clock in the second and a bad snap on Falcon punt accounted for a safety putting the Rams up 19-0. 

  • Ford extended the Rams lead with a 46-yard touchdown reception from Smith midway through the second. 

  • Ford found the endzone from two yards out and Curran returned his second interception of the day 20 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams a 40-0 lead at the half. 

  • Ford scored from five yards out in the opening minutes of the second half to account for the final touchdown of the game.

The Rams are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Western Connecticut at 3 p.m., while the Falcons host Plymouth State next Saturday at noon.
