Football Ends Season with Loss to Wesley in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

Dover, Delaware – The 2019 MASCAC Champion Framingham State University football team closed the 2019 season today with a 58-21 loss to Wesley College in an opening round game of the 2019 NCAA Division III Football Championship.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Senior quarterback Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn.) completed 15-of-42 passes for 295 yards with a touchdown. Wojenski, who was under pressure all game, tossed four interceptions and was sacked six times, while also rushing for a touchdown.
  • The Rams leading receiver was freshman Elijah Nichols (Burlington, NJ) who caught seven passes for 133 yards with a touchdown. 
  • Sophomores Austin Nunn (Bellingham, Mass.) and Emmanuel Exilhomme (Roslindale, Mass.) caught two balls apiece for 56 yards, while senior Jacob Maher (Marshfield, Mass.) caught two passes for 27 yards.
  • Freshman Devaun Ford (Mashpee, Mass.) rushed for 51 yards on 13 carries in the game with a touchdown.
  • Drew Fry completed 24-of-28 passes for Wesley for 345 yards with five touchdowns without throwing an interception.
  • Mike Credle led the Wesley receivers with seven catches for 110 yards and three touchdowns, while Corterris Simpson had six catches for 113 yards. 
  • Senior Dwayne Hunter-Parker (Waterbury, Conn.) paced the Rams defense with 11 tackles including nine solo stops, while sophomore Cully Curran (Arlington, Mass.) added nine including seven solo.
  • Junior Joshua Onujiogu (Wareham, Mass.) added eight tackles including 3.5 for a loss and a half sack, while senior Brian Donahue (Norfolk, Mass.) and junior Joshua Smiley (Springfield, Mass.) added seven tackles apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wesley's Marcellus Pack returned the game's opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown and 7-0 lead just 11 seconds into the game.
  • Wesley extended the lead with a pair of touchdown passes from Fry to take a 20-0 lead with 5:31 left in the first.
  • The Rams answered with a nine play, 79 yard scoring drive that took just under three minutes. Key plays on the drive included a 16-yard pass to Nunn and a 40-yard catch and run from Nunn that moved the ball to the four-yard line setting up a four-yard score from Ford.  After freshman Daniels Lathum converted the extra point, the Rams trailed 20-7 with just over two minutes remaining in the first.
  • Wesley continued to extend the lead in the first half and led 44-7 after a 44-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.  Wesley added a pair of third quarter touchdowns.
  • The Rams tallied a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to reach the final margin.  Wojenski completed a 70-yard touchdown pass to Nichols to cap a three play, 80-yard drive and then Wojenski snuck in from a yard out capping a 12-play, 57-yard drive.
