Football Downs Mass. Maritime 16-6 in Annual Battle for the Kelley Cup

Buzzards Bay, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team defeated Massachusetts Maritime Academy 16-6 in Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon and in the annual battle for the Kelley Cup at Clean Harbors Stadium.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Senior Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn.) completed 18-of-31 pass attempts for 275 yards with a touchdown and no picks. Wojenski also rushed for 52 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown.
• Freshman Devaun Ford (Mashpee, Mass.) eclipsed the 100 yards rushing mark in the game with 143 yards on 27 carries. Ford also made four catches for 45 yards in the contest.
• Freshman Elijah Nichols (Burlington, NJ) made five catches in the game for 111 yards, while senior Jacob Maher (Marshfield, Mass.) caught seven passes for 102 yards and a score.
• Matt Long completed just 10-of-25 passes for the Bucs for just 69 yards, while also rushing for 31 yards on 18 carries.
• The Rams defense held Mass. Maritime to just 126 yards of total offense in the game. The defense was led by nine tackles, seven solo, four for a loss and a sack by senior Jack Sullivan (Dartmouth, Mass.).
• Sophomore Adeboye Oyaronbi (Revere, Mass.) added eight tackles including seven solo stops, while junior Facundo Isas (Fitchburg, Mass.) chipped in with six stops, all solo.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Rams got on the board on the opening possession of the game.  Wojenski connected with Maher for an eight-yard touchdown strike just under three minutes into the game.
• The Rams extended the lead to 14-0 with just over five minutes remaining in the second quarter on a one-yard scoring run by Wojenkski that capped a nine play, 52-yard drive.
• Ja'iel Johnson returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for the Buccaneers for a touchdown cutting the deficit to 14-6.  The Rams' Adeboye Oyaronbi (Revere, Mass.) blocked the PAT attempt and senior Dwayne Hunter-Parker (Waterbury, Conn.) returned it for the defensive two points making the score 16-6 with 4:56 left in the half.
• The Bucs were moving the ball on their final possession of the opening stanza, but sack by senior Jack Sullivan (Dartmouth, Mass.) pushed the Bucs back near midfield.  After a short gain, a pass interference penalty on the Rams put the ball on the 34 yard line with nine seconds remaining.  The Rams came up with a pair of stops to keep the Bucs off the board.
• Neither team found the end zone in the second half and the Rams earned the victory bringing the Kelley Cup back to Framingham. The Kelley Cup is the annual battle between Framingham State and Mass. Maritime with Framingham Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Tom Kelley facing off against his son, Mike Kelley, who is Mass. Maritime's Director of Athletics and an assistant football coach.
