Football Flies Past Fitchburg State 56-7

Fitchburg, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team recorded four turnovers and freshman running back Devaun Ford (Mashpee, Mass.) eclipsed 100 yards rushing in the game as the Rams defeated Fitchburg State University 56-7 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Elliot Field this afternoon.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Ford surpassed the 100 yard rushing mark for the first time in his young career as he rushed for 139 yards on 19 carries with a pair of touchdowns. Ford, who averaged 7.3 yards per carry, also made two catches for 10 yards in the game.
  • Senior Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn.) completed 12-of-26 pass attempts for 231 yards with a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 10 yards on six carries with a score.
  • Sophomore Austin Nunn (Bellingham, Mass.) was the Rams leading receiver with four catches for 73 yards, while also rushing for a touchdown.  Senior Jacob Maher (Marshfield, Mass.) made two catches for 46 yards.
  • The Rams defense forced four turnovers in the game including interceptions by freshman Issac Nascimento (Wareham, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Militello (Gloucester, Mass.) that set up touchdowns.
  • Sophomore Cully Curran (Arlington, Mass.) and senior Jack Sullivan (Dartmouth, Mass.) recorded eight tackles apiece, while junior Anthony Behonick (Rutland, Mass.) added seven stops, all solo.
  • The Rams defense held the Falcons to just 148 yards of total offense in the game including just 68 on the ground. The Rams amassed 548 yards of offense including 260 yards rushing.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Brian Donahue (Norfolk, Mass.) forced a Fitchburg fumble on their second possession of the game setting up the Rams' first score of the game.
  • Wojenski completed a pair of 12 yard passes and Ford rushed for nine yards to the Fitchburg nine-yard line.  Wojenski then hit sophomore Emmanuel Exilhomme (Roslindale, Mass.) with a nine-yard scoring strike.  Freshman Daniels Lathum converted the extra point for the 7-0 lead.
  • Nascimento came up with an interception and return to set up the Rams next touchdown.  Wojenski capped a three play, 23 yard drive with a 19-yard touchdown run.
  • The Rams opened the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns in the first five minutes extending the lead to 28-0.  Wojenski connected with sophomore William Jean (South Boston, Mass.) for a 62-yard touchdown with 14:33 on the clock.
  • On the Falcons next possession, Nascimento recovered a fumble and returned it 17 yards to the 28 yard line.  Wojenski converted a fourth and ten pass to Nunn keeping the drive alive and Ford finished the drive with a five-yard touchdown run.
  • After a Falcon's punt, Ford found the end zone again for the Rams on a 39-yard rush pushing the advantage to 35-0.
  • The Falcons got on the board on their next possession on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Connor Fitzsimmons to Joshua Nelson. After the extra point, the Rams led 35-7 with 1:13 on the clock in the third.
  • Nunn added a one-yard touchdown run in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. Nunn's touchdown run came one play after he made a 30-yard reception.
  • The Rams added a pair of scores late in the fourth quarter.  First, on a one-yard run by freshman Danny Marinaccio (Wakefield, Mass.) after an interception by Militello and then on a 22-yard run by Rosen Pierre (Brockton, Mass.).
