Bio

Michael Gedman enters his fifth season at the helm of the Rams baseball program in 2018. He was named head baseball coach in January of 2014 and since that point has helped the Rams be leaders in the MASCAC in home runs and stolen bases.

Last season, the Rams advanced to the MASCAC Tournament Championship finishing the season at 20-24. The Rams led the conference in home runs, stolen bases and strikeouts. Kevin Connelly was named MASCAC Pitcher of the Year after a 7-1 season with a 2.35 ERA.

The Rams 2016 campaign featured five all-conference selections and senior Zack Kirby set the Rams all-time strikeout record.

In 2015 Gedman led the Rams to a school record 27 wins finishing the year with a 27-19 record and as runners-up in the ECAC Div. III New England Championship Tournament. The Rams were 3rd nationally in stolen bases (119) and set school records in homeruns, doubles and total bases. 

Gedman led the 2014 Rams to a 20-19 season and an ECAC Tournament Appearance. They set a school record for team ERA and stole an impressive 126 bases, which was good for 6th nationally with 3.23 stolen bases per game.

Prior to joining the Rams, Gedman spent the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Division I Bryant University.  As part of the Bulldogs staff, Gedman was the hitting coach in addition to leading the recruiting efforts as well as handling administrative responsibilities within the baseball office.

Gedman helped lead the 2013 Bulldogs to a school record 45-18-1 mark which included the Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season and post season titles as well as the program’s first Division I NCAA Tournament victory, a 4-1 triumph over Arkansas. 

Gedman played his collegiate ball at Le Moyne College before transferring to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he earned a degree in history with a concentration in 20th century American history.  While at Le Moyne, Gedman saw time at first base and on the mound as the Dolphins appeared in the NCAA Regionals hosted by Texas A&M.

Gedman played his final three seasons of collegiate baseball at UMass Amherst. As a junior, Gedman led the Minutemen with a .345 average with nine doubles, two triples, five home runs and 25 RBI.  He recorded 13 multiple hit games and six multiple RBI games and ended the season by being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team.  Gedman led the Minuteman pitching staff in 2009 with a 2.42 ERA in 22.1 innings of work as he made 15 appearances, all in relief.  He recorded five saves with 20 strikeouts and opponents hit just .192 off the lefty.  As a senior, Gedman hit .314 with six doubles, a triple and a team leading eight home runs.  On the mound, Gedman tossed a complete game at St. Joseph’s and recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts.

Gedman, who played two seasons for the Worcester Tornadoes and a season for the Rockland Boulders of the CANAM league, has worked at the Rich Gedman Baseball Camp as well as serving as an instructor with New England Ruffnecks Baseball.

Gedman comes from a line of successful athletes, his sister Marissa plays professional hockey for the Boston Pride, his brother Matt played professional baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization and is an assistant coach at Trinity (CT) and the Pittsfield Suns, his mother Sherry was a very successful pitcher at the University of Connecticut and his father Rich was a two time all-star for the Boston Red Sox and is now the hitting coach in AAA for the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Michael graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of arts degree in history and currently resides in Framingham.
